Overview

HonestMile is designed to record and organize mileage for people who drive for work.

Many core features work locally on your device. Optional features such as Cloud Sync, account sign-in and subscriptions use online services and may transfer the information needed to provide those features.

Information HonestMile uses

HonestMile may access or process information needed to provide mileage tracking, trip records, reports, backup and related features.

Location data

HonestMile uses precise location data to record the route and distance of trips.

While mileage recording is active, HonestMile may access location in the background, including when the app is not visible, the screen is off, or an automatically started recording is running.

Location information processed during a recording may include GPS coordinates, timestamps, speed, accuracy information and route points.

Background location is used for mileage recording and related trip features. It is not used for advertising.

Trip and mileage data

The app may store information including:

• trip start and end times;
• recorded distance and mileage totals;
• route information;
• driving and walking sections;
• GPS interruptions and estimated or repaired route sections;
• business or personal classification;
• start and destination information;
• business purpose and notes;
• odometer entries;
• vehicle information; and
• remembered places or other information you enter.

This information is used to create and maintain your mileage history, trip details and reports.

Vehicle connection information

HonestMile may use Bluetooth, vehicle connection or Android Auto connection status when you enable features that depend on detecting your selected vehicle.

This information can be used by automatic tracking features to determine when the conditions for starting a mileage recording have been met.

HonestMile does not use Android Auto to read your messages, contacts, calls or audio content.

Physical activity information

HonestMile may use Android activity-recognition or movement information to help distinguish driving from walking and support trip processing.

This information is used for mileage and trip-related features.

Local storage

Mileage and trip records are primarily stored locally on your Android device.

You can use core mileage recording without signing in.

Local information may include trip records, routes, odometer readings, vehicles, remembered places and app settings.

Data stored only on the device may be removed if you delete it, clear HonestMile's app storage or uninstall the app.

Google Sign-In and account information

Signing in is optional and is used for supported cloud backup and restore features.

If you choose to sign in with Google, HonestMile uses Firebase Authentication to authenticate the account.

Authentication may provide an account identifier and basic information supplied by Google for sign-in. HonestMile does not receive your Google password.

Cloud Sync and backup

Cloud Sync is an optional Pro feature. When enabled, supported mileage records can be synchronized with your authenticated account using Firebase services.

Cloud-backed records can include information needed to synchronize or restore supported mileage records, such as trip information, mileage totals, classifications, odometer information and related record data.

Cloud data is associated with the authenticated account and is not made publicly available by HonestMile.

Maps, places and route services

HonestMile uses mapping, location, place-search and routing services to display maps and provide features related to trip locations and routes.

When you use a route or place feature, the coordinates and other information required to perform that request may be sent to an online service.

Only information needed to provide the requested feature is sent for that request.

Reports, exports and local backups

HonestMile can create mileage reports and export or backup files. These files may contain information from your mileage history, including dates, distances, classifications, locations, vehicles, odometer information and other trip details.

Files you save or share are under your control after they leave HonestMile.

How we use information

Information handled by HonestMile may be used to:

• record mileage and calculate trip distance;
• distinguish driving and walking;
• display and process trip routes;
• identify or repair interruptions in recorded routes;
• classify and organize mileage records;
• generate reports and exports;
• provide optional Cloud Sync and restore features;
• authenticate accounts;
• verify Pro subscription access;
• protect app and backend services; and
• diagnose technical problems.

Service providers and sharing

We do not sell your personal information.

Information may be processed by service providers necessary to operate the features you choose to use.

These providers process information under their own applicable privacy policies and data-processing terms.

Information may also be disclosed when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect the security of HonestMile, its users or its services.

The HonestMile website uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site.

Website analytics may include pages viewed, approximate geographic area, browser and device information, traffic source and interactions with website features.

We may measure events such as selecting Get HonestMile, downloading a mileage log template or using the mileage reimbursement calculator.

Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies. Browser settings and privacy tools may allow you to limit these technologies.

Data security

We use reasonable technical measures and platform protections intended to protect information handled by HonestMile.

Cloud-backed data is associated with authenticated accounts and access controls are used to limit access between accounts.

No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Data retention

Locally stored records remain on your device until you delete them, clear the app's storage, uninstall the app, or use a feature that removes them.

Cloud-backed information may remain while your account and Cloud Sync data are active.

Backup systems may temporarily retain copies for security, recovery or reliability purposes.

When account deletion is completed, associated account and cloud data are deleted except where information must be retained for legal, security, fraud-prevention or another legitimate purpose. Any such information will be retained only for as long as needed for that purpose.

Deleting your data and account

You can edit or delete supported mileage records from within HonestMile.

HonestMile also provides an in-app account-deletion process for signed-in users.

If you cannot access the app, you can request deletion of the account and associated cloud data by email.

Deleting an HonestMile account does not automatically cancel an active Google Play subscription. Subscriptions are managed separately through Google Play.

Children's privacy

HonestMile is not designed for children. It is intended as a mileage-record tool for drivers and people who use mileage tracking for work-related purposes.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children for the purpose of providing the service.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when HonestMile features, service providers or data practices change.

When the policy changes, the Last updated date at the top of this page will be revised.
